Real estate sales agents routinely find themselves in situations where they are alone with clients or customers about whom they have very little information. The nature of showing homes and property to prospective buyers who are virtual strangers can make all agents, both men and women, susceptible to becoming victims of crime. Recognizing this, Lake James Real Estate follows careful procedures to protect our agents and our clients, including:
- Asking clients to meet us at our office as often as possible. That way, other agents and office staff can meet, and learn to recognize, our clients and vice versa.
- Following or leading the way in a separate vehicle if the client must drive. This gives our agents the ability to leave a situation if need be.
- Leaving an agent itinerary with our office staff detailing where we are going and when we expect to return.
- Always having multiple agents at open houses.
- Always carrying cell phones – and checking in with the office every hour to let our staff know where we are.
- Possibly asking to copy your driver’s license and/or other identification, and identify your vehicle and license plate information for our files.
- Monitoring office entry and exist points with security cameras.
