Lake James State Park One of Top 10!
'Although we will soon be getting a new state park, and we are all very excited about that, our current park is still a great place to visit. Lake James State Park was voted one of the top ten camping sites in the Carolinas by GORP.com. This is not hard to imagine, since Lake James is one of the cleanest and clearest lakes in the Carolinas. Lake James has some of the best views, as the high mountains of Pisgah National Forest soar skyward beyond the water to the northwest. The campground at Lake James State Park exceeds adequate amenities, with a nice bathhouse, and 20 tent camping sites. Lots of campers use this as base camp to explore Linville Gorge and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Lake James has 150 miles of alluring shoreline and the Lake James State Park encompasses 5 miles of that shoreline. There are several hiking trails in the state park leading to Sandy Cliff Overlook, Lake Channel Overlook and the longest trail, Fox Den Trail. So get out and enjoy our beautiful Lake James State Park!
The Color has Finally Arrived!
Mother Nature has been a bit late this year, but it is still allowing devout leaf-peepers ample opportunity to view the beautiful fall colors. The past few weeks the temperatures have been dropping into the 30s at night and daytime temperatures have also been much milder, which is causing the fall color at the lower elevations to spread quickly. The higher elevations continue to have an abundance of color and have started to peak. This is a great time to take a drive near Grandfather Mountain or near Linville to experience this splendid show.
Christmas Boat Parade!

Participants can decorate their boat in a holiday theme and join in the parade. The parade will start at South Pointe, go to canal bridge and return to South Pointe. Tips on Winterizing your Boat.
"Winterizing your boat is one of the most important things you can do to ensure safe boating on Lake James next spring. You can winterize the boat yourself if you feel comfortable doing so or you can take it to a qualified technician at your local boat dealer. Here are some basic guidelines to winterizing your boat. Fill the fuel tanks and add the appropriate amount of stabilizer. Run the engine long enough to get the treated gas into the fuel line and engine.
Flush the cooling system. Kits are available at marine dealers. Remove block plugs and drain all the water from engine to remove accumulated sediment and rust. Pump in anti-freeze to prevent trapped ice pockets.
Fog the engine with oil to prevent rust. Follow the instructions that come with the product making sure to spray some into the cylinders through the spark plug holes once the engine is cool.
Check spark plugs and replace if necessary.
Replace oil and oil filter.
Change the lower gear case lubricant on outboards and inboard/outdrive engines. A small amount of trapped water can cause damage.
Check the prop for nicks that could hinder performance.
Store outboards in an upright position.
Clean boats inside and out to store, and allow for air circulation under a boat cover to prevent mildew.
Drain water from the bilges.
