Red, White and Bluegrass Festival, July 1-4
The Red, White and Bluegrass Festival has become a Morganton traditionand the highlight of our Fourth of July weekend. It all began in the early 1980s when the City of Morganton decided to hold a modest fireworks display on the Fourth of July. Over the years, the event grew into a multi-day festival now held at the Burke County Fairgrounds.
In 2004, the annual celebration was named The Red, White and Bluegrass Festival, and is considered one of the premier bluegrass festivals in the southeastern U.S. Visitors from all over the U.S. and as far away as Europe and Japan come to enjoy bluegrass music. Daily admission is $20 for adults and kids under 12 are free with a paid admission. Four-day event passes are $60.
A special Bluegrass Camp for Kids is also part of the festival with sessions on string instruments, singing and more.
The festival kicks off with a free day on June 30, followed by four more days of toe-tappin' bluegrass. For a list of this year's bands, and event details, visit the festival website.
