Convenient location and mild climate make Morganton a beautiful place to live. Winter temperatures range from 40 to 50 degrees and summers from 70 to 90 degrees. Annual precipitation is 50.4" with less than 8" of snow in the winter. And the views of the Blue Ridge Mountains to the west, including Table Rock, Grandfather, Hawksbill and Shortoff Mountains are as delightful as the weather.
Morganton is also a wonderful place to live and raise a family. The exceptional quality of life here is apparent from the friendliness of the town and people living here. Downtown, youll find charming historic buildings and a main street bustling with the activity of people going to the small shops, restaurants and new state-of-the-art movie theater. As part of the city's revitalization program, an old hosiery mill is currently being renovated into beautiful new city offices, retail space and loft living.
During May and June, there are Friday night outdoor concerts on the downtown square and the Historic Morganton Festival in September draws visitors from around the area. The City of Morganton Municipal Auditorium (COMMA) features an array of performing arts including concerts, musicals and stage productions. In town, you can take a stroll or run on the greenway trail that follows the Catawba River and stop in one of the restaurants along the greenway and enjoy the view. Or visit one of the many craftsman and artisans who still make beautiful handcrafted doors, cabinets and ironworks the old fashioned way.
