Enjoying the outdoors in Morganton North Carolina is as easy as stepping out your door! It is no wonder our community is called Nature’s Playground. You can jog, bike, or simply walk the Greenway, which follows the Catawba River through Morganton. Cycle Wright is a custom bike shop located in the plaza along the path where you can rent a bike to enjoy for the afternoon. Canoe and Kayaks are available for rent at CBS Sports located on Hwy 181 just minutes from the river and lake. Catawba Meadows offers the same trails with frisbee golf, baseball fields, climbing towers and playgrounds for children.
Beanstalk Journeys is an overhead adventure in climbing walls, zip lining, and sky bridges. If you get hungry, there are two restaurants along the path you can stop at. Take a short drive out to Lake James and enjoy the beautiful views of the Blue Ridge and the lake. Miles of hiking trails snake through Burke County, through the Pisgah National Forest and Linville Gorge. Stop at Lake James State Park and walk, run or mountain bike over miles of trails. Take a picnic to enjoy at lakes edge or swim at the beach. Opening this March 2015 at the Paddy’s Creek site, the first boat up camping sites at the state park. Reserve your private camp site, set up your tent and enjoy the lake. Travel south of Morganton and visit the largest NC State Park-South Mountain State Park. The park includes elevations up to 3,000 feet, a waterfall dropping 80 feet and more than 40 miles of trails. From equestrian camping to trout fishing, mountain biking to picnicking, a number of activities are available at South Mountains State Park. Morganton is a great place to enjoy life outside!
